Wearing The Inside Out

As soon as we notice we are in separation, often through the internal focus on sensations that the mind tells us are unpleasant and self-critical and judgmental thinking, we are free of it. At this point, celebrate that as you have experienced the grace of noticing your suffering, you are free and don't continue down the root of beating yourself for experiencing separation. This will compound it. It is like pouring petrol on the fire instead of water on it. Focus instead on how it feels to be free of separateness and the story in mind. This freedom gives rise to your right next step. This freedom is reality, not the focussing on psychological strife. Give it validity by paying attention to it and not ignoring it, for this is your true nature's home, not the mental stories unfolding in your mind. As part of noticing the separation internally, you can reflect on what may have triggered this belief. Perhaps it was an emotional spike caused by not knowing, impatience, relational issues, financial or physical health pressure, or an event that reminded you of some previous trauma and that seemed to cause an apparent block on how to get your needs met. Perhaps it was simply a subtle pervading sense of being a separate person that has become embodied in your chest or head or hangs around in subtle thoughts of "me".

In all cases, what blocks the path forward in life is getting wrapped up in the story of separateness, which is conceptualising the self as a separate mind and body. Here we "physicalise and boundary" the self instead of "seeing that it is boundaryless". In the former case, we instantly see the environment around us as separate, and we work on the basis that we have to get something from it and focus on the extrinsic goals to organise it to achieve this. We "wear" life from the outside in. In the latter case, we see the world around us as part of us and allow our path to emerge intrinsically. We "wear" life from the inside out.
